Private Equity: A Duke Street perspective

Peter Taylor

The Private Equity (PE) industry has come under increasingly hostile fire since 2007, regularly portrayed as a force for bad, rather than good, on the corporate landscape.

More often than not it is seen as an industry bent on extracting generous short-term gains for a few secretive, get-rich-quick financial engineers.

Few people equate PE with protecting the long-term interest of shareholders or giving ambitious entrepreneurs the chance to build thriving businesses. Fewer still are aware of the industry’s record in creating employment and building profitable, growing businesses.

It’s a perception we think should be challenged. We believe we can do just that, as a Private Equity firm with a track record of investing in and growing more than 40 mid-cap businesses over the last 20 years.
