Burton's Foods

The UK’s second largest biscuit manufacturer in the £2 billion UK Biscuits market

At Burton's we backed a strong management team that, in recent years, had transformed the company from a manufacturing-led to a consumer-led business.

A business with leading brands

In acquiring Burton’s Foods, Duke Street is set to grow one of the UK’s leading biscuit manufacturers.  Burton’s bakes some of the UK’s favourite brands – including Maryland Cookies, Jammie Dodgers, Cadbury biscuits. It also supplies own label products to major food retailers.

We acquired Burton’s for £215 million in March 2007.

Although Burton’s grew profits in 2008 and H1 2009 and continued to trade well, a combination of commodity volatility in 2007 and deeper discounting by the retailers made it necessary for the Company to enter into a process of restructuring its debt in September 2009.

Due to the nature and terms of the restructuring and the lack of requirement for any additional funding, the bank syndicate became the majority shareholder, with Duke Street retaining a minority stake.

Duke Street supported Burton’s to deliver this deal and wishes the Company continued success.
